Diet Developed to Lower Blood Pressure Rated No. 1

Dash over to the food plan that’s been hailed as the No. 1 Best Diet Overall by “U.S. News & World Report” for 2018 and you won’t find some trendy gimmick. This plan was developed to prevent and control hypertension, and it is promoted by the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The diet is known as DASH or Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, and benefits go beyond lowering blood pressure.

The diet is credited with reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes. By the way, it turns out that following this healthy life style leads to weight loss! That’s why DASH also claimed the No. 1 spot in the U.S. News & World Reports annual “Best Diets” ranking for the categories “For Healthy Eating” and “Best Heart-Healthy Diet”. DASH tied No. 2 “For Diabetes”.

Lean meats, fish and poultry are in this plan, but vegetarians can use it too. The DASH diet plan emphasizes reducing sodium intake, and it’s loaded with calcium, potassium, magnesium and fiber. Plenty of fruits and vegetables, low-fat or non-fat dairy, whole grains and some nuts, beans and seeds are on this diet.  DASH encourages eating real food in the real world.
