Do’s and Don’ts: Teacher Wardrobe Edition

Hey, teacher besties, we aren’t trying to rush you back to your classrooms, but we do want to help you prepare your wardrobe for the school year! You may have gotten used to yoga pants on the bottom and teacher-appropriate clothes on top, so we’re here to go over a few do’s and don’ts of dressing for the classroom, along with some of our favorite picks. Now, let’s get started.

Do: Get a little edgy with your clothes. Seriously, channel your inner Ms. Frizzle with pieces in bright colors, bold prints, and funky accessories.

Don’t: Go overboard. We love a multicolored striped maxi skirt or a fuzzy geometric statement earring, but the last thing you want to do is look tacky. Have a palette in mind, balance your look with solid colors, and tie things together with a denim jacket or cardigan.

Our Pick: Who What Wear for Target Ruffle Midi Skirt ($34.99, shop here)

Do: Channel your inner child. You’re surrounded by tiny humans, after all. If you find a pair of socks made to look like pencils, then, by all means, you need them.

Don’t: Be unprofessional. We don’t recommend wearing star-print leggings with a tulle skirt and a rainbow cardigan. Keep your outfit fun with youthful accent pieces, but balance your ensemble to keep yourself looking (semi) professional.

Our Pick: The Adventures of Captain Underpants Women’s Ringer T-Shirt ($30, shop here)

Do: Opt for some fun shoes. Vans, platform Chuck Taylors, sandals with a small block heel, or printed booties are all practical yet trendy. They can also be worn with virtually anything and still look incredible.

Don’t: Wear uncomfortable shoes just for the sake of an outfit. Remember, you will be on your feet most of the day. If you love the look of Doc Martens but find they hurt your toes, search for a comfier dupe or simply save the Docs for later.

Our Pick: Converse Leather Platform Chuck Taylor All Star ($70, shop here)

Do: Wear bold, bright, eye-catching accessories to liven up your look. Check out stores such as Walmart and Target for affordable, quirky pieces that can bring your whole outfit together.

Don’t: Spend a lot of money on accessories. Teaching is so hands-on, it doesn’t take much for accidents to happen. Scour your local thrift shops and drugstores for pieces on a dime.

Our Pick: Sugarfix by Baublebar Colorful Toucan Drop Earrings ($14.99, shop here)
