Summer 2021 Makeup Is Bold and Bright

We just spent a long time in quarantine wearing minimal makeup or none at all, so does it surprise you that this season’s makeup is anything but subtle? People are excited to show off their mask-free faces with over-the-top looks. Here are a few of this summer’s most popular makeup trends.

Fresh-Faced

When it comes to your makeup base, less is more. Today’s boldest look is a “no-makeup” look, where the skin looks dewy, clean, and overall fresh. You need a lightweight base to pull this off, so try a tinted moisturizer or sunscreen in place of a liquid foundation. Don’t put powder over it unless you have to avoid sweating it off.

Pop Art-Inspired Eyes

Bold, graphic eyeliner is back in a big way – with lots of colors this time around. To get the look, line your eyelid with brightly colored liquid liner. Don’t be afraid to add a second or third color, as you want this look to pop!

Let’s Talk Lips

Our mouths have been hiding for so long, and we missed our favorite lippies! Influencers like makeup artist Patrick Ta are revealing highly pigmented, matte, long-wear formulas. To be on-trend, opt for your boldest reds, corals, and pastels.

Bold Brows

While we’re no longer chasing Cara Delevingne’s brow perfection, big brows remain on-trend this summer. Instead of the squared look that was all-the-rage a few years ago, this season, it’s all about the overgrown feathered look. Bold brows are often accompanied by bold eyeshadow – a great way to make a statement!

Fake Lashes, but Make Them Natural

Long, wispy eyelashes are a must-have this season. They pair perfectly with the bold eyeshadow and graphic liner we’re chasing, but they also look amazing with a more natural makeup vibe. When you buy falsies this summer, look for natural strips. You can also cheat the look with a good lengthening and volumizing mascara.

Tie-Dye Eye Looks

Tie-dye is an iconic summer pattern, and it’s not just for kids! To get the look, apply multiple powder shadows in zones on your lid, then blend them just enough to make the transition between the colors smooth. Make sure to use a light, shimmery shade on the inner corners for a brightening effect.

Take that mask off and (safely) step out to show off your face once again. As people everywhere are excited to do the same, some bold makeup trends are being born!
